Sotheby’s held their Jewels and Jadeite Auction on April 5th and featured plenty of color diamonds. Here's an update on what the much-talked about diamonds sold for:
Superb and Rare Fancy Vivid Blue Diamond and Diamond Ring
Arguably the star of the auction was the much-anticipated Fancy Vivid Blue Oval Diamond, weighing 10.10 carats. Pre-auction estimates put the diamond in the $30million -$36 million USD range, and the hammer fell at $32,013,233.00 USD. While the diamond didn’t beat the Blue Moon of Josephine’s record for most expensive diamond to have sold at auction, this rare gem has broken the record for most expensive diamond sold in Asia.
Fancy Purple-Pink Diamond and Diamond Ring, Monture Van Cleef & Arpels
This 5.16 carat Fancy Purple-Pink oval-cut diamond is set in between two pear-shaped white diamonds and is mounted in 18 karat pink gold. The ring was expected to sell for between USD $359k-$449k, and was sold for $443,554 USD.
Important and Fine Fancy Vivid Yellow Diamond and Diamond Ring
Weighing 10.30 carats, this emerald-cut fancy vivid yellow diamond set into a white gold ring fell into the lower end of its pre-auction estimate at $1.4 million USD.
Rare and Important Fancy Vivid Orange Diamond and Diamond Ring
This ring featuring a vibrant pear-shaped Fancy Vivid Orange far exceeded its pre-auction estimate of $1.5 million -$1.8 million range when the hammer fell at $2.4 million.
Fancy Vivid Yellow Diamond and Diamond Ring
This ring featuring a square-emerald cut 7.03 carat fancy vivid yellow diamond surpassed its pre-auction estimate of $851k-$928k USD when it sold for a whopping $1,016,047 USD.
Sotheby's will have their Magnificent Jewels Auction on April 19th, featuring the Shirley Temple Blue Diamond.
